Always appreciate sensory recommendations. Thank you. This gets you out of the trouble you're in for alerting me that I am Kevin-less my whole life long.

I feel the same way about 'finding' The Tragically Hip after years of ignoring. I, too, have been crazy with the cheez-whiz from time to time - Beck's Geuro - is good stuff. Music is on for me every day all day. Have found some 'sweet spots' just by going with Pandora stations of groups Celia listens to. She has a great ear for happy, chill music. Text her… she'll give you tons if you're looking for it.

If Celia could just be in charge of my whole life, I would honestly love that! For real, though, we've already bonded over Rex Orange County, who's on my weekend "reading music" playlist right after Beck…

LOVED this post, as I tend to do with your funny, sweet, challenging, accepting vibe, and by extension, writing. I can hear you actually saying most of the things, which I adore. I happily picture you in tall boots, a sweater that would earn you west-coast compliments, headphones on, listening to some old favorites and looking for those new gems, too.

Wow, epic post! Nothing stirs the emotions like bringing music into the chat. As the father of a 5 year old who LOVES music, I find myself seeking out epic music epic music to introduce him to, and trying to keep him from listening to his favorite 1000 times per day (this month its Villain by K/DA). I may try to see about doing a Top 100 list with him sometime soon. I also think that we get stuck in a rut because we grew up in arguably the most influential generation of music history has ever seen. Rock, Jazz, Classical were all there was before our generation brough the likes of Pop, Seattle Grunge, RAP then Gangsta Rap, which changed the music scene for generations to come. Every new song these days has roots back to an old classic so it's rare I find a cover or remake that rivals the original (see Johnny Cash cover of Hurt, originally by NIN). One final thought, if you like devouring Top 100 lists, try the American Film Institutes Top 100 Films of all time. Some classics, some you'd never think to watch. Definitely worth the time.

You have a five-year-old! I did not know that! Way to stay young. Being a senior in '92 when Pearl Jam and Nirvana were hitting big was pretty magic, wasn't it? As for films: oof. Knocking the AFI list appeals to me, but I have such a long watchlist on imdb already…maybe someday, though! Just today, a podcast I love was waxing on about their love of Psycho…a classic I have not seen (!). Maybe I should start there…

Loved this post! And what a happy dork i was reading it and going "hey! I got that reference!" My kids used to tell me what to listen to and they made me mixed-Cds, etc. but now even they're too old to know new music. Have you listened to the Avett Brothers at all? Someone once made me a CD in the days of CDs and that's all i listened to for probably 3 years. "and in Jan-u-arrry, we're gettin' married..."

No lie—you are the second person who brought up Avett Brothers today! Must be a sign. I really only know "I and Love and You," which I dig. I should check them out. Good call. Happy dorks are my favorite kinda people, so I'm glad to have you!
